Rock Jamfest

See all news from Coach Kanalley
Tournament Date: May 2 - 4, 2008
Located in Slippery Rock, PA.

Our 13u team learned some hard lessons this past weekend. When playing in an "A" tournament against strong competition you better be ready to play from the opening tip, right to the final horn.

The team was clearly over-matched in game one, but adapted to PA AAU basketball in their next two games. Though the margin of defeats were just in single digits in games two and three, the team is itching to get back on the court ASAP to get back to their winning ways. Unfortunatley our next tournament is not until May 17 - 18 at the Finger Lakes Slam Fest Tournament.

Reminder to all of Coach Kanalley's players: Scrimmage on 5/8/08 at Lancaster Middle School (7 pm - 8:45 pm). Next practice on 5/11/08 at Cardinal O'Hara High School (6 pm - 8 pm)

Defenders eliminated from 12U Nationals

See all news from Coach John
Tournament Date: 07/04/07
After leading much of the game during the 3rd round of bracket play, the Defenders suffered their most painful loss of the tourney as the Missouri Liberty Trailblazers made a late comeback to beat us 53-50. Our girls played extremely well all week against some of the best competition in the country, with three of our four losses by 4 points or less. The AAU National tournament was an outstanding experience for our team and we feel very fortunate to have received a bid and be a part of this elite field of 32 teams. Our goal for next year is to make it to the 13u AAU National Championships in Tennessee!

The Defenders suffered a tough loss, 39-36, in the opening round of bracket play on Monday to the NY Pride from Westchester, NY. After going up 36-35 with under a minute, the Pride hit a big shot to take a 37-36 lead with less than 30 seconds remaining. We had a good look in the closing seconds, but couldn't get it to drop, and were then forced to foul.

Facing elimination on Tuesday, the Defenders played an outstanding game against the Fairfax (VA) Stars. Leading 37-31 with less than 4 minutes remaining, we went on a 14-2 run to close out the win 51-33.

Todays opponent in the 3rd round of bracket play is the MO Trailblazers, who we lost to on Sunday in pool play 63-59.

Playing without two starters this weekend the 16U team went 1 - 3. The lone victory was earned in overtime and came in the first game of the tournament. Winning with Pride

See all news from Coach Kanalley
Tournament Date: 6/15 - 6/17
Though the 16U team suffered four straight defeats against very good opponents at the Syracuse Carrier Dome Pre-Nationals, they came away with their pride intact and loads of respect from tournament officials. Losing by double digits each of the first three (3)games of any tournament usually means going through the motions and limping home on the last day. But not for this team. Playing an inspired, passionate and intense game against Rome Spangle our 16U team, almost pulled the game out. At the end of the game, during the customary sportsmanship shaking of hands between the teams, one of the game referees went into the Spangle teams line and personally greeted each of our 16U players. At the end of the line he greeted Coach Kanalley with a hand shake and complimented the team for putting out a great non-stop effort, right to the last second. He also remarked if some of the boy's teams put out the same type of effort the tournament would have been a total success.
